Nic Salts are the new vaping craze that has been specifically developed for those interested in nicotine consumption. They’re an ideal cigarette replacement for those who have long intervals between vaping. The nicotine hit from Nic Salts is designed to curb cravings for longer periods of time.
E-cigarettes were originally developed as a less harmful alternative to cigarettes. They have proven to be a successful device with the UK Parliament announcing that around 2.9 million people in the UK are vaping and around 470,000 are using them as an aid to quit smoking, with tens of thousands using them to successfully quit smoking altogether.
While successful, some find that entry-level devices, typically pens, aren’t powerful enough to satisfy their nicotine cravings. Larger devices are often more satisfying, but these advanced kits require experience and knowledge of vaping that beginner vapers typically don’t have.
It can take time to build up knowledge about e-cigarettes and how to use them, and it’s highly recommended that you don’t go straight for more advanced kits as these can be dangerous if used incorrectly.
Nic Salts, however, offer that satisfaction and work with pod devices, which have become a popular starter kit. Pods are again a relatively new style of e-cigarette that are easy to use, making them ideal for new vapers.
What are Nicotine Salts?
Nicotine salts, or salt nicotine, are created when nicotine base is combined with an acid or acids. This process creates a salt nicotine solution and reduces the throat hit on higher strength nicotine vape juice. Why do I want to vape on salts? Don’t let the name confuse you. The term “nicotine salt” also known as Nic Salt only refers to the scientific definition.
It doesn’t mean it’s infused with the tasty mineral you sprinkle on your macaroni and cheese. In chemical terms, a salt is formed when an acid reacts with a base.
Simply put, nicotine salts are made by mixing pure nicotine (the base) with certain types of acids. I know what you’re thinking: acids? That sounds worse? Actually, nicotine salts are naturally found in tobacco. So if you have smoked a cigarette, you have experienced nicotine salts.
Nicotine Vs. Nicotine Salt
Nicotine, also known as freebase nicotine or nicotine liquid, is extracted directly from tobacco. This process removes all impurities from the tobacco. You are left with nicotine in its pure form. This form of nicotine is used in almost all e-juices on the market today. Freebase nicotine has a high alkalinity with a PH around 7-8. Why are you telling me this? Well, because the PH level directly correlates with the harshness the vaper experiences during inhalation. The higher the nicotine strength, the harsher it gets.
The creation of nicotine salt is achieved by strategically infusing specific acids to freebase nicotine. What this does is lower the PH level of the nicotine solution, resulting in less irritation. This means you can vape higher nicotine salt strengths without that rough throat hit.
How do Nic Salts work?
The nicotine element in a nic salt is different from a normal 10ml e-liquid. The nicotine found in regular e-liquid is called freebase nicotine. E-Liquid containing freebase nicotine will produce a different throat hit (or kick) depending on the strength of nicotine in the bottle. So an 18mg strength Freebase nicotine e-liquid will produce a greater throat hit than a 12mg, 6mg or 3mg liquid. The higher the nicotine level, the greater the throat hit.
Nic salts are made with a different type of nicotine, not Freebase. The type of nicotine in a nic salt has a different PH level than freebase nicotine and because of this it produces a smoother vape. This allows the user to vape a high level of nicotine without a harsh throat hit.
Nic salts are perfect for people who are trying to quit smoking or for those who currently use a vape device but find they still occasionally light up a cigarette. The composition of nic salts allows the user to use a higher level of nicotine e-liquid without a harsh throat hit. For example, a 20mg nic salt e-liquid will feel like a 10mg freebase e-liquid, a 10mg will feel like a 5mg.
