Sikary K1 Metal Pod Device and K1 Pre-Filled Pod Review

Sikary are a brand of SKE who were founded back in 2013 and to date have a handful of devices in their portfolio. The K1 Metal pod device we’re reviewing here looks to be an upgraded version of the K1 kit and as the name suggests it’s made of metal (aluminum alloy).

The K1 Metal is a very simplistic pod device with a 500mAh capacity rechargeable battery and is draw activated. It’s a closed pod system meaning it takes their range of pre-filled flavored K1 pods. It has the simplicity of a disposable, performs like a disposable but it’s only the pods that are replaced once the e-liquid is finished.

Along with the K1 Metal pod devices we received, we were also fortunate enough to have received the complete range of pre-filled flavored K1 pods (20 flavors) so we’ll give a brief description of each flavor later on in the review.

Overview of Sikary K1 Metal Device and K1 Pods

The Sikary K1 Metal pod kit is a two part vape system. The main body is an internal rechargeable 500mAh capacity battery, charged via the Type-C charging port on the bottom of the K1 Metal device. The pods are a closed system type with 20 pre-filled flavors. The pods have a 2ml e-liquid capacity and come in 20mg (2%) nicotine strength.

It’s a fixed wattage, draw activated, 600 puff pod device with fixed airflow provided by a small pin hole either side of the USB-C charging port. The airflow is suited for a Mouth to Lung (MTL) draw. There are no controls or no on/off button but it does have an LED that shines through the “S” logo on the front of the K1 Metal when you draw on the pod or when the device is being charged.

The K1 Metal is made out of aluminum alloy and measures 94.3mm tall (112.5mm including the pod) by 23.5mm wide and 12.7mm deep with an overall weight of 33.25 grams.

What’s in the Box?

The cardboard packaging is only slightly bigger than the K1 Metal device itself, measuring 115.4mm x 34.7mm x 17.3mm. The outside of the box details the contents, parameters, manufacturer’s address and relevant safety warnings together with an image of the included device.

Once you open the packaging, the K1 Metal device is sealed in an airtight foil wrapper that you tear open to remove the device. It comes pre-charged so all you need to do is unpack one of the flavored pods, pop it in and you’re good to go.

Do note that a Type-C charging cable is NOT included in the kit so you will have to make sure you have one on hand to recharge the K1 Metal when it’s needed. Any standard Type-C phone/tablet cable or another pod/mod charging cable will suffice.

The cardboard packaging measures 61mm x 71mm x 14mm and includes 2 individually sealed pre-filled flavored pods with 2ml of e-liquid at 20mg/ml (2%) nicotine strength. Each pod is specified as providing up to 600 puffs.

The outside of the box details the contents (2 PCS), flavor, best before date, parameters, scan for authentication sticker, manufacturer’s address and relevant safety warnings together with an image of the included pod.

Preparing to Use the K1

Once you open the packaging and remove the K1 Metal device from its sealed foil wrapper I would fully charge it before using.

The K1 pods once removed from their sealed foil, come with an orange silicone rubber mouthpiece plug/cord. Pull this cord out from the mouthpiece and leave the pod to stand for a couple of minutes before attaching to the K1 Metal pod recess.

As you put the K1 pod into the pod recess the “S” logo on the K1 Metal will flash once to let you know the pod has made contact and is ready to use.

K1 Metal Body/Battery Device

Before we get into the specific details, I feel it wise to state and point out that the Sikary K1 Metal really is as simple as it gets. The whole concept around this design is to replicate the simplicity of a disposable with the added benefit that you DON’T throw it away. You simply recharge the battery, pop in a pre-filled K1 flavored pod and you’re good to go.

Unlike other pod kit devices, there are no controls and settings to worry about. It’s a fixed wattage, auto draw vape kit with non-adjustable airflow. It’s very simple and straightforward to use so if you don’t want to worry about changing coils or buying e-liquid then the K1 Metal and K1 pre-filled pods are the perfect choice.

The K1 Metal device is a small flattened tube shape and is constructed out of Aluminum Alloy. It measures 94.3mm tall (excluding the pod) by 23.5mm wide and 12.7mm deep and weighs in at a very lightweight 25.5 grams.

Powered by an internal 500mAh capacity battery, it’s rechargeable via the Type-C USB-C charging port which we believe is 5V/0.5A. Charging time will take approximately 50 minutes to fully charge the battery. The Sikary K1 Metal also has pass-through so you can vape it while it’s being charged.

It’s draw activated only and there is no fire or on/off button. It provides a constant 3.7V output voltage and has dual fixed airflow holes on the bottom of the K1 Metal body which provides a restricted MTL draw. The wattage is not documented but working it out using ohms law, the constant 3.7V output with the 1.1 ohm mesh coil will produce approximately 12W output power.

The only visible UI display on the K1 Metal device is an LED that sits underneath the “S” logo on the front face of the body. This LED illuminates when you draw on the pod and when the K1 Metal is being charged. This LED also provides the following functions:

• Drawing on the pod – LED illuminates
• Pod inserted – LED flashes once
• Pod removed – LED flashes once
• Charging – LED cycles on and off
• Full charge – LED remains illuminated
• Low battery – LED flashes 10 times
• Overtime protection – See Note

Note: I couldn’t find any info on the length of overtime protection and to be honest my longest possible draw of nearly 8 seconds didn’t cut the device off. This isn’t a problem because it’s auto draw and to be frank, my average vape time was always around 2-3 seconds.

The appearance of the K1 Metal is minimal and very clean. The aluminum alloy body is completely colored in a matte finish with the exception of a central wraparound band, with the “S” logo and LED beneath. This wraparound section is shiny but in the same matching color as the body. The are two full length groves that run along the outer edges of the K1 Metal body on each side, adding to the aesthetic and giving it that little extra bit of styling.

Branding is discreetly screen printed and includes “Sikary” and a “S” logo on the front of the K1 Metal body and “K1 Metal”, “1.85Wh”, “3.7V”, “500mAh” and the “CE” markings on the other side.

At the top of the K1 Metal body is an arched oval opening where the pod locates. This recess is 25.5mm deep and houses the two gold plated spring loaded coil contact pins, two circular magnets, an auto draw sensor and a similar looking airflow tunnel.

The bottom of the K1 Metal is curved with a very small flat base where the USB-C port is fitted. Although it’s possible to stand upright it’s not very stable so is more suited to being laid flat when not in use.

I believe the Sikary K1 Metal is available in 5 different colors but I was unable to find any information regarding the color range. We received 4 different colors which you can see in the photos throughout our review:

K1 Pre-Filled Flavored Pods

The pre-filled flavoured K1 pods are NOT included when you buy the K1 Metal pod device, these are purchased separately.

When you purchase flavored pods they come in packs of two and there are a total of 20 different e-liquid flavors available. They have a 2ml e-liquid capacity which equates to approximately 600 puffs and have a nicotine strength of 20mg (2%). We received all 20 different flavors to try as listed below and they do sound really good with a varied range:

We’ve written a brief flavor profile on each of the individual flavored pods in the K1 Flavored Pods section further on in this review so for now we’ll concentrate on their design characteristics.

Each pod is manufactured out of smoked semi-opaque PCTG material with 2ml pre-filled flavored e-liquid using 20mg (2%) nic salts. These pods incorporate an integrated (non-replaceable) 1.1 ohm mesh coil. The pods are disposable (cannot be refilled) so once the e-liquid is used up you dispose of the pod and fit a new one.

The pod measures 43.6mm tall and protrudes from the K1 Metal body by 18.5mm when fitted. The width and depth of the K1 pod is slightly smaller than the K1 Metal body itself and its dimensions are 21.5mm wide by 10.7mm deep.

Its mouthpiece has a duckbill shape which forms part of the pod body having a 3.25mm diameter opening at the end of the pod providing that tight MTL draw.

On the underside (base) of the pod are two outer circular magnets that locate with the corresponding magnets in the pod recess holding it securely in place when fitted. There are also two larger gold plated coil contacts that locate against the spring loaded contact pins in the pod recess. Between these two contacts is a single central airflow intake port hole that allows the auto draw activator to work when you draw on the pod mouthpiece.

Each pod has “Sikary” with the flavor name printed underneath in white lettering on one side of the pod and the usual “CE” marking on the other side. All the flavored K1 pods are identical with the exception of the flavor name identifier.

As we mentioned in the Preparing to Use the K1 section earlier, each pod comes with an orange silicone rubber cord that has to be pulled out from the top of the pod before using. The orange sleeve inside the pod closes off the airflow and wicking ports and when the cord is pulled out of the pod, the sleeve rises above the wicking ports and opens the airflow. Always allow a few minutes for the wicking ports in the coil to fully saturate once the orange cord is pulled out of the pod.

During the time I’ve been using the K1 Metal pod device, every time I’ve removed the pod to replace with a new flavored pod, there were no signs of leaks or any condensation in the pod recess.

Sikary K1 Metal Pod Functionality

The Sikary K1 Metal device replicates the simplicity of a disposable and as such has no controls, no adjustments, nor a fire or on/off button. It’s a fixed wattage, fixed airflow auto draw pod device. All that’s required is to ensure there’s sufficient charge in the battery, insert the pre-filled flavored pod and you’re ready to start vaping.

A visible user interface (UI) on the K1 Metal device is limited to an illuminated LED that shines through the “S” logo on the front of the K1 Metal body. This lights up when you draw on the device, cycles when the device is on charge or displays the different levels of protection as follows:

• Drawing on the pod – LED illuminates
• Pod inserted/removed – LED flashes once
• Charging – LED cycles on and off
• Overcharge Protection (Full charge) – LED remain constantly illuminated
• Under Voltage Protection (Low battery) – LED flashes 10 times
• Short Circuit Protection
• Overtime Protection

When there’s no charge left in the battery, the LED will flash 10 times and the device will become inoperative and will require charging. The K1 Metal has pass-through though so you can vape it while it’s being charged.

Sikary K1 Metal Device Performance

Straight out the packet, each of the flavored K1 pods can be used right away. Simply remove the orange silicone cord from the pod mouthpiece, leave to stand for a few minutes, insert the pod into the K1 Metal device body and vape.

Auto draw was very responsive and worked every time, even the slightest draw activated the K1 Metal device. The two bottom airflow pinholes provided a very quiet and smooth restrictive MTL draw.

Despite being a simple device, the Sikary K1 Metal kit far exceeded my expectations. From such a small, simple device, the flavor from each of the pods we tried was fantastic and the amount of vapor produced from a short 2 second draw was pretty impressive.

Each of the flavored K1 pods lasted well over a days vaping and in some cases I was able to get 2 days use out of each pod. The recorded puff count was a little under the stated 600 puff capacity but this is always ambiguous and depends on the length of your draw.

I monitored 9 of the K1 pods using a mechanical clicker to verify the puff count and the minimum and maximum figures recorded were 486 to 547. The intensity of the vape remained constant throughout the discharge state of the battery and only tailed off just prior to the battery reaching its low voltage cut-off.

Sikary K1 Pre-Filled Pod Flavors

Sikary were very kind enough to send us all 20 of their different flavor pods to try. All the flavors we received contained 20mg (2%) strength nicotine salts and came in packs of two.

The 20 flavors we received were: Apple Ice, Banana Ice, Blue Fusion, Bull Ice, Cherry Ice, Cola Ice, Fruit Gum, Honeymelon Ice, Lemon Lime, Mint, Mojito Mint Ice, Peach Ice, Pineapple Ice, Pineapple Peach Mango, Strawberry Ice, Strawberry Watermelon, Tobacco, Vanilla Tobacco, Watermelon Ice, Watermelon Strawberry.

We’ve given a brief description on each of the 20 flavors and tried to capture our thoughts.

Apple Ice

Loved this one! It’s a beautiful, crisp apple flavor. Very authentic and replicates biting into a juicy sharp apple. One that cries out to be vaped over and over.

Banana Ice

A single flavor which is a very authentic ripe banana. The ice is very subtle giving it just a hint of coolness on the draw intake and leaving a fresh aftertaste. Not overly sweet.

Blue Fusion

Another superb medley of berries and am really loving this one. Lots of berry flavors detected with raspberry coming through the strongest.

Bull Ice

I didn’t know what to expect from this one but WOW! Reminds me of the old fashioned Parma Violet sweets I used to get. An abundance of sweet floral tones and a really nice vape.

Cherry Ice

Cherry has always been a hit and miss flavor for me, you either love it or hate it. More often than not I find cherry can taste metallic but this one is spot on and really lovely. It has a slightly sweet taste and is very flavorsome. Ice content is again very subtle.

Cola Ice

A typical cola flavor which resembles sucking on a cola cube or cola bottle. Another very nice single flavor with just a hint of coolness.

Fruit Gum

Love it! I think it must contain every fruit in it known to man. Bursting with flavor and really enjoyable. My tastebuds are working overtime vaping this one.

Honeymelon Ice

A perfect blend of honey and melon. This is another lovely flavor that just asks to be vaped. The melon comes through slightly stronger but the honey adds that calm, warm undertone to it. Ice again is very subtle and gives you that refreshing feeling.

Lemon Lime

A definite citrusy vibe going on here. The combination of the lemon and lime gave a sharp, crisp taste and was really enjoyable.

Mint

A lovely, clean, refreshing minty flavor that comes through as a combination of peppermint and spearmint. It’s perfect when switching from a stronger fruit flavor to give your tastebuds a rest.

Mojito Mint Ice

Just like sipping on a Mojito cocktail. Very refreshing with a strong tone of mint and the coolness resembles an ice cube in the drink. A fairly sharp taste with the mint bordering on a spearmint taste.

Peach Ice

Another one to die for! The peach flavor in this one is perfect, you can almost feel the fluffy skin of the peach as you vape it. The peach comes through as sweet and ripe and mimics the real thing nicely. A slight ice kick on the draw intake.

Pineapple Ice

Wow! A wonderfully strong, refreshing and very authentic pineapple flavor. Slightly tangy and sweet with a coolness added to it. A perfect flavor as a pallet cleanser or an all day vape.

Pineapple Peach Mango

This one has everything going on. I love all 3 individual flavors and for me the prominent flavor in this one was pineapple. I could also pick out the peach which added to the flavor profile but struggled to pick out the mango.

Nevertheless, this was a very enjoyable combined flavor and one I’d be happy to vape time and time again.

Strawberry Ice

Definitely a strawberry flavor and a nice one at that, but for me there was just something else going on. I like this one but felt there was another flavor added that I couldn’t quite put my finger on. Ice again was very subtle with that little hint of coolness lingering in your mouth.

Strawberry Watermelon

A nice, sweet combination of the strawberry and watermelon with that little extra icy kick. The watermelon came through stronger with the strawberry flavor giving that extra sweet taste to the mix.

Tobacco

I’ll be honest and say I don’t vape tobacco flavors as I really don’t like the taste and can’t compare this to any others for this reason. A few draws on this one wasn’t off-putting, in fact it was not what I was expecting. I was getting an earthy taste and one that I found hard to describe.

Vanilla Tobacco

The vanilla tobacco flavor came through stronger than the single tobacco flavored pod. For me this one was the least favorite of mine but that’s not to say it’s not enjoyable.

Watermelon Ice

Watermelon is the single flavor here and again it’s very authentic resulting in a perfectly refreshing vape. As with all the flavors, the ice content is very subtle and just adds that additional coolness on the draw.

Watermelon Strawberry

A very sweet combination of the strawberry and watermelon with that little extra icy kick. The watermelon was the stronger flavor and and to be honest I struggled to detect a difference between this one and the Strawberry Watermelon flavor.

Flavor Summary

Firstly I must say that, although there were quite a few “Ice” flavors, unlike other pre-filled pods or disposables I’ve tried that have “Ice” added, each one of these were really enjoyable with just a slight coolness to them. They come through as refreshing rather than freezing the back of your throat and were a pleasure to vape on.

All of the flavors we tried were true to form and not overly sweet. They were very flavorsome without being too strong and I was very happy vaping each one. The only two I wouldn’t opt to vape again would be the two tobacco ones, but this is my personal preference as I don’t like tobacco.

Sikary K1 Metal Battery Performance

The Sikary K1 Metal device is powered by an internal 500mAh capacity rechargeable battery. Charging time is pretty quick taking approximately 50 minutes to fully charge via the on board Type-C USB charger port when connected to a 1A or higher power source.

Considering the internal battery is only 500mAh, on average I was achieving over a days vaping from a fully charged battery which is pretty good. This time will vary though depending on your vaping style i.e. duration and frequency of your draw.

Whilst vaping, the LED will illuminate each time you draw on the pod. The LED doesn’t change color as the battery decreases but will flash 10 times when the battery reaches its low voltage cut-off, at which point it will stop working and have to be charged. It does have pass-through so you can still vape it while it’s being charged.

The intensity of the draw remained the same throughout the discharge cycle of the battery so the constant output power worked really well.

When and How Do I Change The K1 Pod?

Because the Sikary K1 pods are NOT refillable, once the e-liquid inside the pod is finished you will have to replace with a new pre-filled pod. The amount of e-liquid left in the pod is visible so you’re always able to keep an eye on it easily. When it’s running low you can remove the pod or tilt the K1 Metal, mouthpiece down, to see what’s left in the pod.

Even when there’s no sign of e-liquid left, you’ll still be able to vape on the pod for a little longer until you start to get a loss of vapor/flavor followed by a cotton wool taste. When this happens the pod will need replacing.

Changing the pod is straightforward; simply pull the pod away from the Sikary K1 Metal body, discard the pod sensibly and replace with a new one.

How Do I Charge The K1 Metal?

As you draw on the Sikary K1 Metal, when the LED flashes 10 times and no vape is produced, it’s time to recharge the battery. Using a USB Type-C charging cable, plug the cable into the Type-C USB port on the bottom of the K1 Metal body. Connect the other end into a suitable power source (typically 5V/1A).

When the K1 Metal is placed on charge, the LED will illuminate and then slowly cycle on and off. It will continue cycling on and off throughout the charging cycle until full charge is achieved. At this point the LED will remain illuminated until the charging cable is removed.

Charging time takes approximately 50 minutes from fully discharged to full charge. You can vape while it’s on charge as it does have pass-through but this will increase the time it takes to charge. You can charge the K1 Metal device with or without the pod inserted, either way is acceptable.

When the K1 Metal was being charged, the casing remains very cool to the touch which is impressive but I would always advise to charge this, and any other device for that matter, on a non-flammable surface.

As always, NEVER leave your vape device unattended while on charge.

Sikary K1 Metal Pod Kit Price

I’ve called the heading “Kit Price” but in actual fact the K1 Metal is sold separately from the K1 pre-filled flavored pods.

The K1 Metal and K1 pre-filled pods have only just been released and at present we couldn’t find any retailers/websites stocking the product. Because of this we can’t comment on the price.

Performance wise the Sikary K1 Metal pod device with the K1 range of flavored pre-filled pods make this a good contender for the perfect replacement to using a disposable.

Sikary K1 Metal Pod Kit Summary

The Sikary K1 Metal is well built, stylish, performs well and has a decent battery life between charges. I would categorize it as a starter kit because of the closed system pre-filled pods but definitely so much more sustainable and cost effective than a disposable.

Flavor from each of the 20 strong range of pods was really good and they didn’t leak at all! Charging was pretty quick (50 minutes) and pass-through vaping takes away the anxiety of waiting while it’s on charge. Draw activation was also very good even with the lightest of draws.

It’s simplistic, straightforward and very easy to use and despite not knowing what the K1 Metal and K1 pods will be retailing at, it’s a great performer.
